  1. Just Flight's new C-46 Commando package, developed by Aeroplane Heaven, features this classic cargo/transport workhorse in military, cargo and civilian passenger variants and includes military and civilian cockpit configurations! First flown in 1940 and introduced into service with the USAF in 1942, the C-46 Commando was a twin-engine transport aircraft used primarily by the military but also by civilian operators, particularly in the cargo role. Flown extensively during World War II, some of the 3,000 C-46s built before production ended in 1945 went on to serve with airlines and cargo operators in the challenging conditions of South America and the Canadian Arctic, as seen on the popular Ice Pilots NWT television show. This Just Flight C-46 Commando package includes military, cargo and civilian passenger variants of the aircraft as well as military and civilian cockpit configurations. Modelled using real-world plans, the aircraft feature multiple animations and highly detailed engines. The faithfully recreated virtual cockpit features 3D instrumentation, wear and tear, and realistic systems functionality. 19 military and civilian liveries (including the famous Buffalo Airways), realistic flight dynamics and an authentic R2800 twin-row radial sound set complete this extensive package. MODEL Accurately modelled C-46 Commando, built using real-world aircraft plans and from official notes and publications Three variants included: - Military – four-blade Curtiss electric propellers - Cargo – three-blade Hamilton Standard propellers - Civilian Passenger – three-blade Hamilton Standard propellers All hatches and doors animated Highly detailed and accurate engines with unique start-stutter effects and volumetric props Beautifully rendered airframe detail with accurate strengthening strakes, pitot tubes, aerials and more Choice of military (wartime) or civilian pilot models Authentic gear operation includes modelled tread-blocks on the tires HD textures are used to produce the highest possible texture clarity, including bump and specular mapping for a truly 3D feel COCKPIT Choice of cockpits: - Military – authentic WWII layout - Civilian – modern gauges with a layout based on Buffalo Airways aircraft Highly detailed with uniquely rendered metal effects and specular shine on many components Cockpit textures feature realistic wear and tear, with dynamic specular effects on surfaces Instruments constructed fully in 3D with smooth animations Realistic systems functionality including engine start and fuel tank selection More here: https://www.justflight.com/product/c46-commando
  2. C-46 For Possum's Flying Service

Howdy Boys (and Girls), My new, New Zealand, air hauler is getting going. QuikAire is doing fine up in Canada, so time to set up a winter (summer in NZ) business so all those valuable Canadian pilots won't have to suffer the BC winter. Started by selling the C-172, then immediately went into debt to get a C-182 and did the due diligence thing until I got far enough down the road to hire out an AI pilot. Soon as that happened, I leased a DC-3 to boost the kitty and gave it to the AI pilot to go out and make some money while I slogged around with a 3100# MTOW. Then I sold the C-182 and leased a C-46. Now we're cooking with gas! I modded the C-46 to give it a 1000 NM range and picked up a whack of carrying capacity. After all, I'm flying in NZ. How far do you think I can go? Much better to carry cargo than gas. MTOW is 44000, with an 8136# capacity for the AI pilot (full fuel = 950USG). So here it is: The first flight of the Commando! Just around the beanpatch, with no cargo onboard. A checkride with the local check pilot. I'm now rated on the beast and my AI pilot made Captain today so she'll be able to fly it as well. Radials turning - ready to rock. Slight right turn out. Bit of a breeze off the ocean. Coming back on the throttles. This puppy is flying! Cleaned up and on the outbound climb TOC and on the downwind Gear coming down. On Base, letting down and setting up for final. My first Final in this beast. One notch, slowing. I think I'm going to need two notches. Getting a touch low!!! Can you feel the sweaty palms? Cheated death and won again! Put her on the numbers and here's the rollout. Ground - Papa Juliet Mike clear of the active. Full stop. Looks like we're gonna have to jump! That's it - down and rated! Let's go make some money. What's the rampie doing scratching his head?
