Mutley's Hangar Update Jan 2011
As ever, the Hangar is taking up near 100% of my free time, it is a real labour of love!
The past 18 months has been a roller-coaster for the Hangar, we have more members, more reviews, more incentives and more interactive adventures than ever, we also have a great team with John, Rob, Dai and Brian all like-minded, unselfish and enthusiastic people giving their spare time gratis to the running of Hangar, without them I could not keep Mutley's afloat
And of course, we have a great crowd of friendly members all joining in with the ethos of the Hangar, "A haven for flight simulator enthusiasts"!
We are now recognised as the #1 independent unfunded reviews site headed up by Rob, some of our review team are well known contributors to the likes of Computer Pilot and PC Pilot. Such is he attraction of our philosophy to take the product, learn it and speak frankly about it, we constantly get offers to review software and we actively lookout smaller developers and freeware developers to promote.
Looking forward, I hope to announce a new newsletter, either monthly or quarterly soon depending on contributions and time available. New adventures similar to ATWC or maybe a new ATWC later in the year.
The prize screenshot competition will continue thanks to on-going support from Just Flight who do so much for the community, thanks guys.
If I had more time I would like to do more, there is plenty of life in FS9/FSX for many a year, that is not to say that we are not casting a side-ways glance at X-Plane and the upcoming Microsoft Flight, you can rest assured we will be there where the action is.
We have a few reviews ready to go live and plenty in the pipeline so please stay tuned-in to Mutleys!
Cheers,
Joe

My main PC is getting slower and slower loading windows and programs and shutting down. Even after all the usual actions running Ccleaner, defrag, updating software & drivers etc.has led to the conclusion it is time to start again!
Not for the first time, I have lost count how any times I have re-formated a drive and reloaded software, a price I have to pay for tinkering and being adventurous.
It's all too easy to download a load of rubbish off the web like demo programs and free trials. The problem is, you never know what they are sneaking in. Sometimes, like today, a program called Ultradefrag, tried to introduce a trojan. Ok, it was picked up my MS Security Essentials but I had no idea until then.
That is an unfortuanate side effect of constantly loading and unloading review and other application software.
I am really fed up with this so a re-evalutaion of my network and systems has taken place. I have remapped my network and will introduce CVS control onto what gets loaded onto my top PC aka "Ninja".
A complete re-install of Windows 7 and FSX on "Ninja" with a new SSD main drive will take place, that should take care of the low benchmark on my hard drive.
There's to be no installation of downloads onto Ninja until they have been tried on my second PC "Bagpuss" which will be upgraded to Windows 7 and inherit my Velociraptor drive from the Ninja.
I really should know better working for a software company, "Ninja" is now my Live PC, all beta testing and reviews will be done on Bagpuss where they cannot cause any harm.
A lot of backing up and reloading is ahead, hopefully leading to a better system!
